Description:
This is a big and bold ornate Old Paris porcelain Rococo Revival style candlestick. The candlestick is in two parts the top figure and the base. The figure is in the shape of a 18th century French maiden holding a vase. The bottom is a bold Rococo Revival shaped base with lots of bright gold gilt and pink ground color. The details in the gold gilt is amazing!!!I'm not sure of the two pieces started life together they might have. The pink on the back figure is a little bit lighter in color. This kind of ornate Paris porcelain was a big part of 19th century Southern culture and used in the fine rooms of plantation homes and townhouses in the deep South from Mobile Alabama to New Orleans Louisiana and Up to Natchez Mississippi, Where lots of it can still be seen today. Condition: The top figure was repaired years ago. The base has small chips on the scrolls very hard to see because the piece is very ornate. Height 21" 1/2 by 12" wide at the base.
