Description: For your consideration, we are presenting a most unusual Oriental urn. This is not my area of expertise, and frankly, there is much I don't know about it, but I will relate the pertinent information, and I gladly welcome any information that anyone may care to contribute. I believe this urn is either Chinese or Tibetan. I have no idea how old it is, but it is definately old. It is a rather large urn, measuring two feet tall, and seems to be made of brass, or perhaps bronze--a magnet will not stick to it. As you can see in the picture it is very ornate. Starting from the top, it is crowned by a white jade finial with a pair of salamanders carved into it. Around the first ridge are four pairs of coral stones, one is missing. Further down, on the bottom rim is a continuous band of coral & turquoise stones, and eight of these are gone. In the indented neck of the urn are a row of six, uh, critters(?). They have horns like deer, but their faces don't look like any deer I've ever seen. In between these are larger coral stones, none are missing. On the ridge under this are four sets of three smaller stones, one coral flanked by two turquoise, none are missing. While the main body appears to be rendered in a sort of scaly pattern, when you examine it closely, there are figures hidden, three dragons, a pair of fish, and several shield-like objects. Also on the center of the main body, are two medallions of carved white jade. The handles have white carved jade discs on top of the brass dome, and on the outer edge of the handle itself, and large jade rings dangle off the bottom. As can be seen in the pictures, the same coral/turquoise patter of stones adorns the handles. Moving down to the indented waist, we have a row of eight round headed serpent looking things. Each one has a small white jade ring hanging from its nose. Finally, the four feet are those deer like animals with horns. I will be most happy to supply more detailed photos, and answer any questions.
