Description: The 8.5 inch barrel on this Newtonian telescope holds a 7.9 inch mirror. It has a rack and pinion operated brass lens and a brass spotting scope. The mirror can be accessed through a hinged door on the side of the barrel so that it can be covered when not in use. The optics are in very good condition. It has an adjustable stabilizing rod that attaches to the brass rotating plate on the tripod base. Marsden worked in Manchester, England the first part of the 20th century. I have had 3 inch refractors by him in the past. The paint now covering the tube is old but over paint on the original green paint. You won't see many old 8 inch reflectors like this.
