Large French Ormolu Mounted Porcelain Table Box, 20th C
Description: Large French Sevres Style Ormolu Mounted Porcelain Dresser/Table Box, 20th C. France. The cartouche shaped box features a hinged cover with ormolu (gilt brass) mounts/rims and applied wreath and ribbon form handle to the front. The surface of the cover is decorated with a transfer printed garden scene with courting couple in 18th century dress within a gilt border. The sides are similarly decorated with gilt and transfer printed garden courtship scene reserves. The transfer printed scenes are heightened in enamel. The interior is decorated with transfer printed floral bouquets. The underside of the base is marked with printed blue pseudo Sevres mark below "P.A". The scene to the cover is signed in the print: "Fragonard". Dimensions: 6" High, 13" Wide, 9" Deep. Weight: 7lbs. 4oz. Condition: There is considerable rubbing/wear/dirt to the ormolu mounts. There is some rubbing/wear to the surface and edges of the porcelain box and cover. There is some bending to the hinges and mounts along the back edge/rim of the box. There are some cracking and losses to the glue/plaster-like material along the seams of the ormolu mounts. There is some light surface soiling/dirt to the surface and interior of the box. There is some wear to the underside of the feet. Otherwise, the piece is in good condition.
