Description:
This is a rare and unusual Large French Antique Faience Cat Pichet, beautifully decorated with flowers and a coat of arms. The coat of arms, A-ma-vie, includes a crest shield surrounded by a crown and two greyhound dogs. There is an opening in the back to add water, a large rear handle. The underside bottom is glazed; the foot rim is unglazed. The modeling, painting, and glaze of this figurine is masterfully done with colors of Desvres pottery: creamy white background decorated with bright dark blue, brilliant lemon yellow, iron red, and sage green. Please note this is not Quimper, but Desvres faience, the finest of country French art pottery. Dimensions (in inches): 10.0 Tall X 4.9 Wide X 7.8 Deep. Weight is 3.0 Lbs. 5.5 Oz. The date is circa 1910. This figural cat pitcher has a ½ inch chip to the top of the left ear, a 1/16-inch chip to the nose, and small losses to the right paw, which forms the spout; otherwise it is in good condition. There are no other chips, cracks or repairs, other than the usual firing flaws and minor wear. Sold as is, as described. Shipping and Insurance by USPS Priority Mail within the U.S. is $20.00. Thanks for your interest!
