Description:
10" h x 8.5" w. This imposing, colorful and HARD TO FIND Majolica Pitcher portraits the great Civil War Lieutenant General Ulysses S. Grant, General in-Chief of the Armies of the United States, as the 18th President of the United States of America near the end of his presidency (1869 - 1877). It was no doubt produced on the occasion of his death in 1885. Made in England for the American market it features Grant's portrait on both sides surrounded by a ribbon festooned laurel wreath. The colors harmonize well, the glaze is slick and shiny without surface wear. There were a few nicks around the rim & spout that have been filled in & repainted, as well as 1 at the bottom rim. Please see my close ups. No cracks or hairlines. A small area is stained on the inside. Other interior marks originated at point of manufacture. Some slight crazing is present. The pitcher is in fine to excellent condition and displays extremely well. The perfect piece for the Civil War or Presidential memorabilia collector.....Please enlarge my photos for a closer look....To view MORE MAJOLICA I have listed...just click on the "VIEW THIS DEALER'S OTHER ITEMS" button on the left, then type the word in the search box.
