Item Description:
This is a handsome large antique English solid Mahogany Victorian bookcase bookshelf. It has a lovely beveled cornice and it features a spacious bookshelf cabinet. The cabinet is missing its shelves but they can be easily added and the original shelf supports are included. It has two beautiful lead glazed glass doors with gorgeous decorative tainted glass designs on their center and corners. They show some age appropriate cracks and spots but considering their age, circa 1899, they are in good condition. This piece features two smooth operating drawers that are well constructed with dovetail joinery and they have very beautiful oval handles with gorgeous decorative hardware. The cabinets have four spacious shelves, two which are removable, and they have elegant paneled doors with beveled raised surfaces. They both have lock mechanism with one key present. This bookcase has a large secret compartment on its back which can be conveniently used for hiding items behind it against the wall and since it has casters it can be easily moved. It appears that this piece used to be part of a large piece of furniture. It may have some minor age appropriate wood separations, scuffs and scratches but overall it is in good condition for its age, as is. It is a unique piece of furniture suitable with many decors.
