Certificate Vignette In 1994, in a move aimed at ensuring growth in reserves and production, Barrick Gold Corporation expanded beyond its North American base, acquiring Lac Minerals, Ltd., an international gold mining company with operating mines in Canada, the United State and Chile. The acquisition gave Barrick control of the El Indio belt, one of the richest gold districts in South America. The district also included the Pascua-Lama Property, now unified as the Pascua-Veladero District as a result of Barrick's merger with Homestake Mining. With gold reserves of over 25 million ounces and 71.3 million ounces of silver reserves, Pascua-Veladero is the largest undeveloped gold and silver mining property in the world. Barrick Gold Corporation is a leading international gold company with the largest market capitalization in the industry. The Company has operating mines and development projects in the United States, Peru, Tanzania, Chile, Argentina, Australia and Canada. Barrick produced 6.1 million ounces of gold in 2001 at a total cash cost of $162 per ounce. With the industry's only A-rated balance sheet, a portfolio of long-life, low-cost properties on four continents and gold mineral reserves of million ounces, combined with significant exploration programs currently underway, the Company is well positioned to increase production, earnings and cash flow. Barrick's shares trade under the ticker symbol ABX on the Toronto, New York, London and Swiss stock exchanges, as well as the Paris Bourse.
