Description:
EP egg cruet, unusual Australian design with kangaroos at each corner. The cruet stand handle with laurel wreath decoration at base of finger loop, and little spikes for the egg cups to sit on. It comes with 6 spoons. The egg cups are each 6.8 cm high (2.5/8 inches) and have pretty scalloped and fluted edges, and beading to foot. Whole set measures 19 cm by 14 cm and 20 cm high (7.1/2 inches by 5.1/2 inches and 8 inches high). Condition: There are some rings on the plate where the egg cups stand (hidden by the cups), and a few areas of wear to the plate around the edge of the cruet (largest one is at the side, by a kangaroo - see photo). Some of the egg cups have marks in the bottom. However, the overall effect is very good indeed.
Maker’s mark is F. W. S. in a shield - possibly Frederick Wilson, Sheffield - although it could also be an Australian maker. The spoons are from Walker & Hall . This item would date from late 19th century, or possibly very early 20th century.
