Description:
Great looking German glass beer stein with inlaid porcelain lid from late 1890s. Pressed glass. The crown mark on the bottom indicates the stein was manufactured by Saxony Glass company. Hand-painted porcelain miniature on the inlay depicting a boat with a monk. I can't really say if the stein has some religious meaning or is it an occupational - river-crossing - subject. The painting on the porcelain inlay is exceptionally good. The Germans call this kind of painting "lupe painting" indicating it could only be done with the help of magnifying glass. Excellent flawless condition. It is 8" tall, 0.5L capacity.
