Description:
Fabulous laminated rosewood slipper chair made by John Henry
Belter, NYC. This elegant chair has a top crest with "C" scrolls and carved
grapes and flowers. The sides are all open carved with vines, leaves,
grapes and acorns. There is carving in the middle of the serpentine skirt.
A rose is carved at the top of each cabriole leg. Similar chairs to this
are pictured on pages 107-109 of "American Furniture of the 19th Century" by
Eileen and Richard Dubrow. The diamond tufted fabric has some wear and was
probably put on many years ago. It has the original brass castors on the
front and back. This chair has some very minor chips in the carvings but is
generally in the good original condition that collectors prize!
Circa: 1850
Dimensions: 42.5"H x 19"W
Finish: Back has very good original finish. The front has some flaking of
the old finish and some darker areas from wax buildup over the years.
