American artist. 1850 - 1909. Member of the Boston Art Club. Exhibited at the National Academy of Design in 1880. White Mountain School artist with studios at the Glen House and the Crawford House. Most noted for landscapes and portraits. Studied in Italy and Germany. This partiular piece is signed and dated in the upper right with the inscription Florence 1884 under the artist signiture. This peice has wonderful detail to the figure, the execution of the sleeve and hand is a great indicator of of his skill and style. Also notice the detail of the small child in the tambourine itself.
