Description:
Heavily carved wood Japanese Shodana display cabinet on a matching stand with a separate carving of a pheasant and cloud mounted on top of the cabinet. The top of the center section of the Shodana has two sliding doors with curved borders on each side. The doors are decorated with birds and flower brances, outlined with the Greek fret pattern. There are two additional sets of sliding doors in the center sections, with similar carved designs. In addtion, there are overlapping shelfs in between the sliding door compartments, all of which are backed by heavily carved, reticulated scrolling designs in the rear of the cabinet. Small carved wiid leaf designs are attached to the top of each shelf at the sides. At the bottom are two drawers with floral designs and the Greek key fret pattern borders. The cabinet is mounted on a matching wood stand with scrolling vine designs. The Shodana is from the late 19th century, Meiji Period. SIZE: 45" High (overall)x 16-1/2" Wide x 9" Deep. The total weight is 27 lbs. CONDITION: Very good overall condition, with the exception of some small pieces of vine missing in the reticulated scrolling decoration in the back of the cabinet. the tip of one feather is missing, as is the tip of a small corner leaf design on the bottom shelf (hardly noticible in either case.
