Museum deacquisition from the Toledo Art Museum, Toledo, Ohio.A very fine Japanese lacquered tray set with beautiful ornate display/storage box. Dimensions are 6-1/2" tall, 10-1/8" long, 6-1/8" deep. The set is comprised of 5 interlocking, stackable, lacquered trays, painted in gilt and Japanese black and red lacquer. The top tray has a cover. All the trays are decorated with a continuous, overlapping floral design in gilt and satin black lacquer on top of the rich red lacquer. The display box, which acts as a decorative diplay and storage box was made to house the trays while not in use. This display/storage box is painted in Japanese black lacquer and gilt. The lacquer set is in original unrestored condition. The overall condition very fine with very minimal wear.
