Description: JAPANESE DOLL

A lovely sakura-ningyo, or Japanese cherry doll of an elegant lady, with traditional long kimono and obi in silk, decorated in red and gold thread embroidery and brocade, with fabric hands and face.

The hat is silk over buckram, trimmed with silver. She is in a fixed-body pose, made of padded cloth over a wire armature, and her face is made of painted, stiffened fabric. Her hair is a silk wig. She stands on a black-lacquered wood base, and dates to the 1940's. Her condition is very good, with only slight wear, primarily minor brown spots on her right wrist.
