Description: AUCTION ESTIMATE = $24,000 - EXTREMELY RARE - STUNNING PAIR OF IVORY LAMPS - ANGELS FLOATING on CLOUDS - DRAGONS CHASING the FLAMING PEARL OF KNOWLEDGE - BIRDS - 38" TALL - 24 POUNDS! The intricate detail and size of these lamps make them unique in the annals of ivory carvings. Each of the lamps is 38" in height and the ivory, in total, weighs 24 pounds. This is an incredible pair of Chinese reticulated ivory lamps (lanterns), the tops with dragons chasing the flaming pearl of knowledge, the facets of each lamp with angels bearing fans and flowers, the lower part with loose rings and relief carvings of dragons chasing the flaming pearl of knowledge. The dragon is the symbol of luck, wealth, good fortune and wisdom. The dragon represents male vigor and fertility and is also the imperial emblem of the Emperor. The dragon is the symbol of the emperor and ranks first amongst the 4 supernatural creatures. The women on the panels are all ethereal beings (angels) floating on clouds. A different angel can be found on each panel. The same six angels will be found on each lamp. Birds of many varieties are carved into each panel near the base and add to the overall charm and desirability of these magnificent works of art. The lamps are functional and are extremely beautiful when lit. The light provides a magical background for the angels that encompass the six panels at the top of each of the lamps. Enough cannot be said about this wonderful pair of lamps. The amount of detail and overall beauty of these lamps cannot be overstated. These carvings are genuine elephant IVORY and in EXCELLENT CONDITION. One of the 6 panels on the back of one of the lamps has separated. This can easily be resolved by an expert in ivory repair - provided upon request. They were HAND CARVED and HAND SCRIMSHAWED in China by a gifted master craftsman in the early 1900s. They have a lovely patina that nature has chosen to bestow upon them. These carvings are UNIQUE and exhibit beautiful IVORY GRAIN which is guaranteed to be clearly visible. The ivory has been highly polished and exquisitely detailed. The quality of the ivory, the quality of the carving and the quality of the scrimshaw work are all exceptional. These carvings were legally imported into the USA and can only be shipped to locations within the USA. This stunning pair of intricately carved lamps would be a monumental addition to any home or office and should steadily increase in value over time.
