Description: EXTREMELY RARE SET of CHINESE WARRIORS on HORSEBACK - 30 POUNDS! This is a huge set of an Emperor and Empress on horseback on sectional rectangular ivory bases. This is far and away the largest pair of an Emperor and Empress on Horseback that I have ever seen. These are absolutely MASSIVE! They weigh 30 pounds and each stands over 23" tall. The detail on this regal pair is absolutely amazing. The facial features are extremely well detailed and consistent with their regal countenance. The Empress holds the reins with her left hand while clutching a spear with her right hand. The Emperor holds a spear in his left hand and holds the reins with his right hand. They each have a quiver holding multiple arrows hanging from their saddles on the reverse side of each piece. Please note how they each have their feet in the stirrups and how the artist has even taken the time to carve the individual teeth on each of the horses. The clothing of the Emperor and Empress, the chain mail that is part of that clothing and the apparel on the horses are beautifully and deeply incised. Da Ming (The Great Ming) is engraved by the artist on the underside of each piece. These carvings are 100% elephant IVORY and in EXCELLENT CONDITION. They were HAND CARVED and HAND SCRIMSHAWED and SIGNED in China by a gifted master craftsman in the early 1900s. They have a lovely patina that nature has chosen to bestow upon them. These carvings are UNIQUE and exhibit beautiful IVORY GRAIN which is guaranteed to be clearly visible. The ivory has been highly polished and exquisitely detailed. The quality of the ivory, the quality of the carving and the quality of the scrimshaw work are all exceptional. These carvings were legally imported into the USA and can only be shipped to locations within the USA. This gorgeous pair would certainly make a monumental addition to your collection of fine Asian antiquities and should steadily increase in value over the years.
