Description: RARE - MATCHED SET - EMPEROR and EMPRESS on HORSEBACK on SECTIONAL RECTANGULAR IVORY BASES - Eash is 13+" in height weighing 6 1/2 POUNDS in total. This is a matched set of an Emperor and Empress on horseback residing on sectional rectangular ivory bases. The detail on this regal pair is absolutely stunning. The Emperor holds the reins with his left hand while clutching a whip with his right hand. The Empress holds a whip in her left hand and holds the reins with her right hand. The detail is absolutely exquisite! They each have a quiver holding three arrows hanging from their saddles. Please note how they each have their feet in the stirrups and how the artist has even taken the time to carve the individual teeth on each of the horses. The clothing and even the apparel on the horses are beautifully incised. The facial features of the Emperor and Empress are just marvelous. They both have a lovely patina that comes only with age. Each is signed on the underside "Da Qing nian zao" which translates to "Made in the Great Qing Dynasty". These carvings are 100% genuine elephant IVORY and in EXCELLENT CONDITION. They were HAND CARVED and HAND SCRIMSHAWED and SIGNED in China by a gifted master craftsman in the early 1900s. They have a lovely patina that nature has chosen to bestow upon them. These carvings are UNIQUE and exhibit beautiful IVORY GRAIN which is guaranteed to be clearly visible. The ivory has been highly polished and exquisitely detailed. The quality of the ivory, the quality of the carving and the quality of the scrimshaw work are all exceptional. These carvings were legally imported into the USA and can only be shipped to locations within the USA. This gorgeous pair would certainly make a handsome addition to any collection of Asian antiquities or any collection of the equine genre.
