Description:
Original circa 1890-1895 iron toy Hygeia Ice Wagon made by Ives Toy Co. in Bridgeport, Connecticut. The toy measures 9" long by 7" tall by 4 1/2" across the wheels. I do not know exactly what the measurement would be when properly completed with the correct horses for the front end.
This rare toy is missing the horses, two wheels, & the center support for the horses that made up the front end. Also missing is the front seat that would have fit inside the front of the wagon into the two small holes in the sides of the wagon. Also missing is the driver. The back is missing the tailgate. Also missing from the back is a figure that would have sat on the back steps.
T is a 3/4" by 5/16" chip missing from the right side near the top back. Radiating from this chip are three cracks in different directions. One crack is 1/4" long, one crack is 7/8" long, & the third crack is 7/8" long. We have mentioned all the flaws & missing components.
The positive thing is that this significant iron toy wagon retains lots of its all original paint. T is no repaint & t is no touchup. The original paint shows some wear as is clearly shown in the pics. Lots of the original yellow paint is present as are gold highlights to the letters & the raised moldings on the sides.
The wheels retain their original red paint. The very fragile original back steps are entirely intact. We have left the wagon just as we found it. The paint would clean up a bit, if desired, as t is some light dirt on the paint from use. We have mentioned a number of flaws & missing components. Still, this is a significant iron toy wagon just as it sits.
