Description:
This incredible piece of inlaid furniture was originally manufactured as a dental cabinet. Obviously, this was not designed for your typical dental office! The center drawer on the base has a metal tag inside, which reads "The Dental Manufacturing Co. Ltd. London, Manchester, Dublin. The form and styling would make it perfect for the living or dining room. The dominant wood is mahogany and inlaid with satinwood stained in various shades. The top has an elegantly turned finial and arched crest. There is an inlaid rim with leaves and flowers with fan shapes below the crest. The cathedral shaped grillwork on the doors is a dramatic feature. The glasses are individual panes cut and shaped to fit between the wooden mullions. Notice how the inlay on the doors was designed and cut to look like fabric drapes. Each door has a recessed panel with an inlaid pattern of an ornate plateau with flowers and leaves. The doors have their original working lock. Inside are 2 adjustable shelves and 8 small hand dovetailed drawers with satinwood fronts. Below the doors is a shelf with an arched top having inlaid fans in the corners. The back of the shelf is an original beveled mirror. On either side of the doors is additional storage having a brass gallery on top, arched niches with fan inlays in the corners, or 7 additional smaller various sized hand dovetailed drawers with banded inlay and flame mahogany fronts. The top rests on a beautiful figured marble with an ogee edge. The base has a slide out shelf in the center just under the marble. Below are 5 graduated sized drawers. The bottom 4 have banded inlaid with flame mahogany fronts with their original working locks. On either side is an additional drawer and a door with a recessed central panel having an intricately ornate inlaid design of flowers, leaves and an unusual vase below. Inside, each has a shelf. The doors have their original working locks. Notice the 4 carved quarter columns on the base and the ornately carved cabriole legs and shapely skirt. The cabinet is comprised of 4 separate pieces making transporting much easier and safer. There is the top cabinet, marble, base cabinet and leg structure. All the solid brass hardware is original. The finish is original and in excellent condition having a rich color and patina. There are some very minor inlay pieces missing and only visible upon very close inspection. This cabinet will make a statement in any room or home.
