Description: "Form Meets Function" is the title of this unique one of a kind piece of furniture, designed and made from old Foundry patterns. This bold and structural looking wall console was made from two vintage Foundry Forms used to mould and cast large steel parts. The top is one large form used to cast half of a large steel hatch door with two large hinges. You can see the ribbed supports that were part of the casting that gave the door and the hinges their strength. The bottom pattern was used to cast a housing for a large shaft or axle. This piece also has stamped and cast reference numbers. Both pattern forms are made of wood and the lower form retains much of its original black and orange painted finish.
These two original foundry forms are joined together by a series threaded cast iron gas pipes, screwed into cast iron flanges mounted to the under side of the top. The cast iron pipes then go through the collar of the lower wood form and are anchored with silver cast iron caps. This design gives the lower form the ability to support the large 50" x 25" cantilevered top. The whole unit easily mounts to the wall with a large steel interlocking brace that is virtually hidden once its installed. The top of the console is covered with a large piece of industrial green glass that allows you to see the elegant structural design of the foundry form. The glass rest on the support ribs and hinges of the form, giving it the appearance of floating above the console. Size: 33"H x 50"W x 25"D
