Description:
An interesting old silver spice spoon, the bowl of which is made from a George V 1917 Indian Silver Rupee coin and from it's construction and design appears to have been made hand made by Indian craftsmen. I don't know precisely when this was made, the coin used is dated 1917, but obviously it could have been made some time later. However it seems doubtful that it is recent because these days a silver Rupee coin of that age in Good condition would have more value to a collector than it's silver content so it would be an expensive way to make silver spoons, which of course suggest this dates back to the British Empire in which case it is now quite old. It is in quite good condition but as can be seen from the photographs there are a couple of knocks on the rim. Not sure what the purity of the silver is but obviously British minted coins of that period had a high silver content and the handle and top appear to be of the same metal so is also IMO most likely also made of coin metal of the same period. It is very nice, and certainly an interesting spoon, and typically Indian, and of course being handmade is unique and you can't get any rarer than that.
