Indian Carved & Lacquered Wood Fantastic Animal, 19th C
Description: Antique Indian Carved & Lacquered Wood Figure of a Fantastic Animal or Mythical Beast, 19th C. India. The figure is carved in the form of a recumbent creature with horns and long tapir-like mouth inlaid with bone tusks/teeth. The surface is finished in red lacquer with black and white highlights. The piece is not signed or marked. Dimensions: 8" High, 10-1/4" Wide, 6-3/4" Deep. Weight: 6.75lbs. Condition: There are a number of cracks to front and back of the figure. Some of the cracks appear to have been repaired and/or overpainted (including the forehead). There are three holes drilled along the edges of the integral base (presumably to mount to another stand). There is some light scratching/denting/wear to the surface of the figure. Otherwise, the piece is in good condition.
