Description: Weight 84.3 grams
TMK-6, 1985
Stamped “257 2/0”
Painters initials with “85”
Missing bee mark
Height about 4”
Excellent condition

We are pleased to offer this lovely Hummel entitled “For Mother” of a girl holding a small bouquet in her hands.

This Hummel figurine is stamped #257 2/0 for the mold number and is TMK-6 with the missing bee mark “Goebel” & “Germany” in blue letters. It is about 4” tall and it weighs approximately 84.3 grams. The master sculptor for this piece is not mentioned in any of our Hummel books, and there are initials of the painter who colored this beautiful piece along with “85” referring to the year he painted this piece, 1985. By the way, did you know that the word “Hummel” in German means bumble bee, and that’s why Hummels had the bee mark from 1934-1979 and has it again from 2000 to the present?

The figurine is of a little girl with brown hair cut short and without the usual orange scarf or bow. She is wearing a white blouse, reddish brown bib top, a dark brown skirt, and an apron that is light green with orange polka dots with brown circles around them. Her shoes are brown. The name tag is on the left side on the edge of the base and it appears in both English and German.

She is holding a small bouquet of brown flowers with a touch of orange and a few streaks of green for the leaves in both hands, and this Hummel is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing.

The artist behind the lovely hummel figurines is Berta Hummel, a Franciscan sister called Maria Innocentia. Berta Hummel was born on May 21, 1909 in lower Bavaria where her talent for art was encouraged and nourished by her parents. At the age of 25 she joined the convent of Siessen on Aug. 30, 1934 where she created paintings and drawings that made her famous. Little did her superiors dream that this modest blue-eyed artist who had joined their community would someday be world wide renown.
