Description:
This fine wine jug has a ewer shaped plain form onto a circular domed swept foot. The tapering body has an applied snake uncoiling from the foot. Applied to the upper portion of the jug is a broad band of three dimensional pierced fruiting vine and chrysanthemum decoration futher embellished with birds. The wine jug is fitted with a hinged domed cover and a thistle-like silver finial. The jug is also fitted with an impressive ornate tapering C scroll handle enhanced with embossed and chased acanthus leaf, foliate and tendril decoration. There is some weighting to the base. This wine jug is an extremely good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent condition. The piece is struck to the underside of the base with the maker's mark only. Reflections in photography may detract from the true representation of this item.
