We are pleased to offer this lovely Hummel entitled “Postman”. It is stamped 119 2/0 for its mold number. The height is about 4.5” tall and it weighs approximately 116.6 grams. This adorable young boy is TM7 era according to its bee mark on the bottom, and has the date 1985 on the bottom. The sculptor is Arthur Moeller, the copyright is 1939 and 1985, and this Hummel is marked Goebel Germany, and it has the initials of the painter on the bottom.

This young man is wearing a white shirt with an orange bow tie, black shoes, and a long blue coat. He has on a blue cap with a brown visor, has a mail bag in front of him with the straps going around his neck. He is holding a pile of mail under his left arm, and is holding up a letter with a heart on the back of it in his right hand. This Hummel has its name sticker on the back with the name in both German and English, and the name M.I. Hummel in the back top of the base.

The artist behind the lovely hummel figurines is Berta Hummel, a Franciscan sister called Maria Innocentia. Berta Hummel was born on May 21, 1909 in lower Bavaria where her talent for art was encouraged and nourished by her parents. At the age of 25 she joined the convent of Siessen on Aug. 30, 1934 where she created paintings and drawings that made her famous. Little did her superiors dream that this modest blue-eyed artist who had joined their community would someday be world wide renown.
