Description:
This is a wonderful ironstone black transfer or transferware huge cup and saucer sometimes referred to as a grandfather's cup. The oversized cup and saucer was made by William Adams, Staffordshire England 1891-1905 with a saying, poem or motto on both the cup and saucer Let the Wealthy and The Great Roll In Splendor and State I Envy Them Not I Declare It with more about growing one's own food. The design has a border of roses, shamrocks and thistles to signify Great Britain and a crest called The Farmer's Arms with a stook and farm implements. The cup is 3.6 inches high by 4.75 in diameter and the saucer is 7.5 in diameter so if you had your breakfast coffee in this you'd have a buzz on all day! The cup and saucer is in excellent condition and was a fabulous find on our last English buying trip.
