Description:
Please note: with no frame of reference it is difficult to tell how large this charger is. It is huge and extremely heavy. I strongly suggest measuring before bidding. Also, see the picture near the end of this listing showing our store. In the front two windows you can see a pair of chargers; one of those is being auctioned here. Compare the size of the charges to our front door and you'll have some idea of how big this piece is.
Massive Chinese Export Porcelain Blue Canton platter / charger / plate depicting clippership at Whampoa Anchorage. Fitzhugh butterfly border.
Approximate dimensions: 24" diameter. I strongly encourage measuring before bidding, and not only measuring 24" wide but also a circle with a 24" diameter; again, this piece is massive and extremely heavy.
This charger is part of our exclusive Historic Museum Collection and is entirely handmade by our artisans in Hong Kong exactly as Export Porcelain was made in the 18th and 19th centuries: hand formed, hand potted, hand painted, hand glazed, and hand fired in wood-burning kilns. This is not a transfer pattern and the porcelain is not stamped from a mold. From start to finish, this piece takes over one month to produce.
So there is no confusion: the piece here is new but was made with the same methods, materials, techniques, and traditions as its antique counterpart, and was made in the same location.
IMPORTANT NOTE: the picture above is from our catalog. Because each one of these chargers is custom made, and entirely handmade and hand painted, no two are ever exactly the same, nor would one want them to be; such is the nature and beauty of handwork. Accordingly, if you win this auction, the charger you will receive will be nearly identical in every way to the one in the picture, but not a cookie-cutter Xerox copy, which again is not desirable since it would be indicative of a mass-produced, programmed production.
