Description:
This is a hardcover cookbook and it is called the Good Housekeeping Cooking Compendium. It was compiled by the Good Housekeeping Institute in 1954. It was first printed in 1952. It has 648 plus pages including the index. There is wear to the cover as seen in the pictures. It does have some browning to the pages from age. I've thumbed through it and see no major flaws. The title page does have a small tear at the bottom. You might find a spot or two or a note in a margin but this lends to the character of the book. It has more than 1500 recipes plus many color ads that appeared in the magazine. It is broken into three sections called Basic, Picture, and Cake. It provides series of picture lessons from which the most inexperienced beginners can quickly learn how to produce the dishes required for everyday use in the home. It is in good condition for it's age. Some of the recipes are Cheese Straws, Irish Stew, Syrup Tart, Scones, Apple Snow, Victoria Sandwich Cake, Beef Curry, Biscuit Ring Pie, Cream Horns, St. Valentine's Biscuits, Opera Creams, Snowball Cakes, and Norwegian Fruit & Nut Twist. This cookbook is a hard one to find. This Good Housekeeping Cooking Compendium cookbook would be a great cookbook for a new cook or an older wise one.
