One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. He also served as a delegate to the American Kennel Club for decades. Nimmo, 1899. 8vo., 519p., red cloth with gilt lettering and illustration, 12 guarded illustrations by Wildrake (C. J. Apperly, 1752/78- 1843), Heath, op. 1840, and Jellicoe, op. 1840, colored by hand. Tales of fox hunting. Covers have some shelf wear, gilt is still bright. Mr. Fretwell's bp on front fixed endpaper. Plates are clean and bright. Just some occasional light foxing in the text. VG to VG+.
