Description:
Very rare doll by Gebruder Heubach. The bisque head is attached to a somewhat crude, poor quality body. Center of the body is a wooden mechanical bellow. When pushed, the boy doll claps with the release of a musical melody. I have been told that this type of doll was used by photographer to get the attention (and a smile) of a child about to be photographed. The overall condition is very good, clothing appears to be original and fairly clean. The bisque head has wide open/closed mouth with molded lower teeth. The back is marked with impressed #2 above and 6736 below GERMANY. The doll has wooden arms and legs. The lower part of the body - from the waist down to the knees -is wrapped with old fabric tape. On the back of the center wooden "box" is hand written date 12/4/61 M.K., which is most likely when the bellow was repaired. Made by Gebruder Heubach, Germany circa1910-20. Height app. 17 inches.
