Description:
Exceptional ebonized parlor or center table. Aesthetic movement (c1880)made of cherry and soft woods with original ebonzied finish, properly cleaned and overcoated for preservation. The top of the table has a new antique green tooled leather top with a greek key gold tooled design. The center table is approx 29" tall, 30" deep and 36" wide. The leather inset surface is 24x30". The quality and detailed of this table is in the manner of Herter Bros. New York. The table has a carved and stepped skirt. The center post is scribe turned and bulbous, it is surrounded by four side posts which support the top and connect to the legs. Just below the skirt on each of these posts are well formed ionic capitals. The corbel for each of these posts connecting legs are lion heads. Great great detail and quality. The leather surface is high grade and has been put down on a plywood surface as the original was missing. This will keep wood movement to a minimum. The 1/4 round border which contains the leather edge is new and is an exact copy of the original.
