Description: Alice Caldwell Hegan-"Mrs. Wiggs Of The Cabbage Patch"-1903-Century Co-4 1/2" X 7"-153-harcover book-illustrated-Signed By Author.Alice Hegan Rice (January 11, 1870 - February 10, 1942) was an American novelist. Born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, she wrote over two dozen books, the most famous of which is Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch. The book was a best seller in 1902 and was set in Louisville, Kentucky where she lived. Hegan was married to poet and dramatist Cale Young Rice. The house the couple lived in is at 1444 St. James Court and is still standing. Rice was the niece of author Frances Little. Several of her earlier works were translated into German, French, Danish, and Swedish, and three (Mrs. Wiggs, Mr. Opp, and the Romance of Billy-Goat Hill) were dramatized. Both before and after she became a novelist she was favorably known also for short stories contributed to the magazines. Her other earlier titles were: Lovey Mary (1903) Sandy (1905) Captain June (1907) Mr. Opp (1909) A Romance of Billy-Goat Hill (1912) The Honorable Percival (1914) The book has been autographed on the title page by Alice Caldwell Hegan in blue fountain pen...............BOTH BOOK AND AUTOGRAPH ARE IN VERY GOOD CONDITION...........
