Description: A highly decorative string dispenser topped with a lid with an integral steel cutting blade, the string appears from the small hole in the top and can be conveniently cut to size ... the blade is still fully functional. The body of the box is made from a cast steel or pewter material then encased with the polished highly decorative reticulated or pierced brass. One side has a large oval shield shaped cartouche which could be engraved if desired. Dating to around 1880, this antique box remains in excellent condition with minor wear commensurate with age.
