Description:
This gorgeous antique box newel post is made of oak and currently stained in a cherry finish, which of course can be stripped to suit one’s taste. Originally found in a beautiful St. Louis home, this boxed newel post begins with a stripped (for wood display) acorn top finial, which is supported by a flared, square, disc-shaped top. Just below, one will see dental molding banded above the newel post’s next section, which exhibits flowered roundels centered on each side. This Neoclassical newel post displays a charming tied bow and leaf-and-dart appliqué adorning each side of the body, and it finishes at a base which has been notched out to accommodate a step. This indentation can easily be restored to fit the buyer’s needs. This newel is really quite gorgeous, and it would suit any Neoclassical or Federal style décor. This newel post is 9 7/8” square at the top, 7 ½” square at the bottom, and 49” Tall.
