A wonderful letter box or caddy created from dark polished oak with a decorative pierced brass panel to the front engraved at the top " Letters For Post ".
Every hotel, gentleman's club and even smart homes with a butler, would have a letter box to collect the daily correspondence to be take to the post office for mailing; most civilized, I have to take my own!
The box is designed to either sit on top of a hall table or desk or could be wall hung with the aid of the brass ring hook attached to the back.
A good size, perfectly usable today, measuring 6" x 4" x 5 1/4" tall at rear. Excellent condition dating to around 1890.
