Haiti has its own stylistic contemporary artists led by Bernard Sejourne, who is now deceased and by Jean-Claude Legagneur (born 1947, Port-au-Prince). PROVENANCE: Here is a message from its previous owner: "When I walked into Georges Naders Gallery in Petionville, Haiti in 1990, this painting, one of many hanging on the walls, literally commanded my attention. Titled "l'Arlequin" it is a bold work of such style and power it is a joy to view. It is 38 1/2 inches by 26 1/2 inches. It is oil on canvas. The Gallery Nader acquired it directly from the Artist in 1990 and it was in the previous collection since its purchase in 1990 until 2007. This one is not for the timid and is so Haitian, but the contemporary genre."
