We've had exactly two of these dramatic Gruen Curvex "Triumph" models with this dramatic curve (from top to bottom and front to back) in 30 years. These babies are as scarce as they are spectacular. The yellow gold filled case measures a full 50MM lug to lug by 22MM at it's widest. This long tonneau shape allows the stylish sweep of the case to go completely across the wrist and become an elegant body accessory. The movement in these Gruen Curvexes is second to none, and, due to the fact that it uses the entire case (because of Gruen's patent on the curved plate movement) it makes for a more robust timekeeper, by allowing the use of the entire case. This allows for a larger gear train and robust power delivery. The dramatic curve of the case is not only stellar in appearance but it is comfortable to wear since it follows the curve of your wrist. Let your eye follow the curve of the case side...it is much longer than it appears in the photo. The lucky few that own this watch are the subject of constant admiration while wearing this elegant timepiece. By the late 1930's Gruen had developed the Curvex and brought it to market. The Curvex was such a hit that it became the watch of movie stars, celebrities, and those in-the-know. Gruen held the patents for the curved movement so no other maker could duplicate the high curve of their case; flat movements limited the curvature. Other manufacturers could curve their cases but not their movements which was the secret to a true highly curved wristwatch. The dramatic sweep of the yellow gold filled case is a visual compliment to how well Gruen made movements. The seventeen jewel, calibre 330, is running, and keeping time like the day it came from the factory. The crowning glory is the spectacular dial which is a satin/silver original beauty displaying gold Arabic numerals. At the dial center a thin line rectangle mimics the case shape and adds eye appeal. There is also a very elegant seconds bit at the 6 o'clock position that echoes the case shape. Once you strap this watch on your wrist you will never want to wear any other curved watch.
