One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. Many include dogs, with small game and large, upland birds and waterfowl also included. A pictorial history of North American hunting as recorded by more than fifty renowned artists of the past century and a half such as John James Audubon, A. F. Tait, Thomas Eakings, Winslow Homer, Frederic Remington, Arthur B. Frost, Charles M. Russell, Lynn Bogue Hunt, Carl Rungius, Frank Benson, Hans Kleiber, Maynard Reece and many more, with commentary. Just jacket is moderately worn, with losses, closed tears, chips, etc. Mr. Fretwell's bp on front fixed endpaper along with label from SECCA Library. Gift inscribed on front free endpaper. Small soil spot on fore-edges. Very nice interior.
