Description: What an absolutely stunning find! The back and front panels of this large desk top accessory are made from Papier Mache with the base even retaining it's four little mother of pearl feet. The interior and front panel beneath the silver have been professionally re-lined in burgundy silk moire or taffeta to re-vitalize this magnificent piece to it's former glory. The interior has a pocket for storage of stationery and spare blotting paper. Of course it is the opulent pierced repousse front panel that makes this one of the very best. Thick guaged silver, a magnificent riot of scrolls, floral and foliate vignette and three adorable cherub or putti figures; one surrounding the top of the large vacant cartouche in the centre. To make things even better, the silver is clearly hallmarked by the famous London silversmith, William Comyns, which all makes sense when evaluating the high quality of the workmanship. The hallmark is clear for London 1896, making this a true Victorian example. The condition is outstanding and the size impressive, measuring 11 1/2" x 9" when closed. Shipping and insurance are included.
