You don't need a one, two, or five gallon can of it. You don't even need a whole quart. All you want is one or two drops of a lubricant to make something work smoother, run quieter, or to get it unstuck.

Throughout time people have frequently needed smaller quantities of some type of lubricant for smaller applications. That's where small oilers come in handy. Call them by any name: oil cans, lubricators, home oilers, pocket oilers, handy oilers, or just simply oilers. Small oilers of almost limitless designs and styles can be found in most homes and businesses around the world, including the armed forces. They've been produced in many different materials through time, including metal, glass, and plastics.

Small oilers have become a popular collectible that has apparently no end in sight when looking for diversity. I've been asked if I have an example of every kind of small oiler ever made. With about 700 pieces in my own collection, and around 1500 pieces in yet another collector's, I can only guess that there are literally many thousand more different small oilers yet to be discovered and documented. Businesses both large and small put their name on small containers as a means to advertise, and just ""one"" brand might have dozens of variations of container size and design of their advertising over the years.
