FIRST EDITION, first printing with the first state dustjacket. Large thick 8vo. Full grey cloth with blue lettering and scroll designs on spine and front cover. Copyright page states "Published May, 1936" (first edition, first printing, first state). Book has been reinforced at the gutter of the endpages with archive tape. The first state dust jacket is not priceclipped but it has been professionally restored and reinforced at folds. Small chips. Binding is clean and tight. This book is housed in a custom green cloth slipcase, with gilt stamped dark green morocco label on the spine and matching folding cloth chemise. The slipcase is lightly rubbed at extrems. Overall a VERY GOOD PLUS book in a VERY GOOD dustjacket. A great gift. Gone with the Wind, an American novel by Margaret Mitchell, was published in 1936 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1937. Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell (November 8, 1900 – August 16, 1949) was an American author, who won the Pulitzer Prize in 1937 for her immensely successful novel, Gone with the Wind, published in 1936. The novel is one of the most popular books of all time, selling more than 28 million copies (see list of best-selling books). An American film adaptation, released in 1939, became the highest-grossing film in the history of Hollywood, and received a record-breaking number of Academy Awards.
