Description:
This beautiful old stein was mouth-blown of crystal glass around 1870. It was cut and faceted, then it was colored in bright ruby using "flashing" method very common in 1860 - 1870. This is a so-called "Spa" stein - the steins of this type were made to commemorate somebody's visit to a spa town. In this case the town was Vienne or Wien in German - the famous Diana Bad (Diana bath house) extists in the modern times and is one of the major Vienna attractions. The stein was then cut to clear and engraved with a copper wheel to create a a view of the town. The engavings are precise and beautiful - a true work of art! There is no damage to the glass whatsowever. The pewter mountings are tight and solid. The stein is 5" tall to the top of the thumblift, 0.3 L capacity
