Description:
Rose Brown’s original pastel drawing entitled “Girl Eating an Apple” captures an adorable young girl biting into a seemingly delicious bright green apple. Brown has rendered the girl to be playful and innocent with her head bowed and her eyes slightly turned up to the viewer. The intense contrast of the girl’s dark skin against the color of her pale shirt and the green of the apple pushes them to the foreground of the composition. The subtle contouring of the girl’s face and the apple is rendered with delicate shifts of light and shadow, even incorporating soft grays and white to show the slight reflections of the blue-grey background. This beautiful drawing is double matted in a sandstone bottom mat which brings out the color of the girl’s shirt, and a majestic brown linen top mat which compliments the girl’s dark skin and eyes within the composition. The piece is mounted in an ornate gold antique wood frame which echoes the soft highlights of the background and brings the overall measurements to 17” x “21.” The unique matting and framing presentation of this piece was individually selected and created by Le Chateau’s renowned master framer, Jeanette Shoenrock, and bears her signature on the back.
