Description: Truly outstanding Empire giltwood and pietra dura table top coffee table. It is masterfully crafted with inlaid precious stones on black marble mounted upon a heavily carved giltwood base. Period piece Made in Florence Italy during the reign of Napoleon III 1870 to 1890. The marble top is expertly inlaid with a variety of colourful semi-precious stones. It is an incredibly difficult process to cut and inlay the stones into the marble. Due to big size of the inlaids this is probably the work of more than one master craftsman. The table top would have been made in areas around Florence in Italy, where suitable workmen were available.Condition: This table is in very good original unrestored and untouched condition.
