Description:
. These elaborate centerpieces with applied figures were extremely popular in the late 19th and early 20th century. As with much 19th century design, the manufacturer has looked to the 18th century for inspiration. The molded and pierced rim and the rustic branch form base are echoes of rococo design, which enjoyed several popular revivals during the 19th century. The image of beautiful maidens, accompanied by mischievous or playful children, recur in all areas of the decorative arts during this period. The semi-matte tinted peach ground with olive and gold tones was popular with both German and Austrian factories at this time, and taken in conjunction with the other design features date this piece to circa 1900. On the bottom are the crossed swords mark.
