Description:
German patriotic military stein issued to a member of Grenadier Regiment 9 stationed in Ypres in 1914. Ypres is the very important town in WWI. It was the place of the most fierce battles resulted in hundres of thousands of casualties. It was also one of the first places where the weapons of mass desctruction was used. This town gave it's name to the horrble weapon that started the new era of warfare - the mustard gas was named Yperite. The stein is made of stoneware with etched cobalt-blue glazed decorations showing the Iron Cross and the words "Gren. R 9 Zur Erinnerung an Ypern 1914". - "Grenadier Regiment 9 in memory of Ypres 1915". The lid is pewter with engraved initials "S.S." and number 34 - most likely the unit number where S.S. served. Excellent flawless condition - with some manufacturing impurities but no damage whatsoever. 6" tall, 0.5L capacity.
