Description: A very good pair of George III sterling sugar tongs by Hester Bateman, c.1790. Here is a very good example of this lady silversmith's work displaying some fine engraved and bright-cut decoration, for which she was famous. In very good condition, very crisp detail. Scrolling monogram, JH, on the back. Marked with the Lion Passant (for sterling) and her Maker's Mark only, which is not at all unusual on small articles. Dimensions: 5.4" long.
