Description:
This is a stunning and important early George III Mahogany Chest on Chest. Signed & dated by the maker: C. Paddock on May 22, 1795, shows that this particular piece is a very significant example of a quality item most likely commissioned for a great house. Beautiful inlaid work in the sawtooth design on the cornice and almost a micro mosaic detail adorns the top and cut corner sides. Noteworthy is the cedar used as the secondary wood - very unusual, expensive addition that is yet again indicative of the superior craftsmanship. The swanneck hardware is original as are the bracket feet. Sugar paper still lines the drawers. Includes key. Note the original patination throughout. This type of Tallboy dresser served the purpose of storing everything from clothes, to linen to silver depending on which room it was used in. This versatile piece works in just about every room or in the hallway. More photos available.
