A LITTLE HISTORY: Chuck Yeager Broke Sound Barrier 60 Years Ago Charles Elwood "Chuck" Yeager (born February 13, 1923) is a retired Brigadier-General in the United States Air Force and a noted test pilot. In 1947, he became the first pilot (at age 24) to travel faster than sound in level flight and ascent. During World War II, General Yeager distinguished himself in aerial combat over France and Germany during the years 1943-1945 by shooting down 13 enemy aircraft, five on one mission, including one of Germany's first jet fighters. On March 5, 1944, he was shot down over German-occupied France but escaped capture when elements of the French Maquis helped him to reach the safety of the Spanish border. "General Chuck Yeager is The Fastest Man Alive"! One of the many ways to describe this true American Hero--General Chuck Yeager is the greatest pilot the World has even seen. On October 14, 1947 General Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier writing his name into the History books. This handsome limited edition prints feature General Yeager In "Glamourous Glinnis" Named after his 1st Wife, Glennis. These prints are hand signed by the artist and General Yeager himself.
